Nancy Drew, Vampire Slayer

A while ago I had to make a book cover example for a workshop I attended. The concept I ended up with was “Nancy Drew, but actually paranormal”. At the time I was planning to make it a series and sketched the next cover plan, but never moved forward with it.

I found the sketch earlier this week (to be included below) and the concept still speaks to me so I started a re-draw.

Don’t worry, I’ll fix the weird “Y” on “Nancy”. I thought it was cool at the time.

Here’s the original sketch (we’ve improved since 2024 woot woot!)

I think “Pomegranate Man” is way better and more mysterious than “Tuxedo Vampires” and because I make the rules that’s what we went with.

…And the original concept cover that started it all:

This was ALSO once a sketch I wasn’t going to color. I did it for inktober in 2023? 2024? Who knows.

It’s been a crazy couple weeks. I moved, bought a car, and have done a lot of running around/trying new things. School (I’m in a Masters Program that I’m chipping away at) is starting soon and I’ve got some significant family events coming up.

Imagine turning and seeing this and then crying in a public park. There. You’ve got it. You’re me.

In other news, I saw this copy of the post in the wild (in an antique store) and it hit me like a sledgehammer. Big fan. Don’t ever think I’ve seen this Norman Rockwell before. (My photo is a lot worse so I stole one from online)

Thanks for tuning in, See you next week!
